Terry Tools Lubrication Instructions

TERRY TOOLS LUBRICATION INSTRUCTIONS

RIGHT ANGLE AND 45º ANGLE ATTACHMENTS – RIGID AND FLEXIBLE

To disassemble the tool for lubrication and inspection it is recommended that you use a bench vise, crescent wrench and pliers.

REMOVE THE FRONT SPINDLE BEARING: On models with milled flats use a crescent wrench. For those without flats use pliers. Hold the tool in your hand with the spindle facing you. Firmly grasp the bearing with the wrench or pliers and turn in a CLOCKWISE motion. After the bearing is removed you can remove the spindle. Thoroughly clean the spindle and check the gear for wear. (SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR TERRY #0 AND TERRY #N-50–To reduce the possibility of distorting the angle head, replace the front spindle bearing after removing the spindle gear before using the crescent wrench to remove the head as outlined below)

REMOVE THE HEAD: Place your tool in a bench vise, clamping down on the handle. If your tool is a flexible model clamp on the front ferrule. With the crescent wrench firmly grasping the head at either side, turn the head CLOCKWISE to remove.

REMOVE THE DRIVE SHAFT: The drive shaft will easily pull out of the handle or flexible casing. Thoroughly clean the drive shaft or flexible cable and inspect the gear for wear. If compressed air is available blow it through the handle.

REASSEMBLE: Lightly coat the cleaned drive shaft with grease and insert into the handle or flexible casing. Lubricate the drive gear. Thread the head onto the handle(COUNTER CLOCKWISE) first by hand, then secure with bench vise as above and tighten with a crescent wrench. USE EXTREME CARE WITH THE SMALL FLEXIBLE DRILLING ATTACHMENTS. THE FRONT BUSHING IS NECESSARILY SMALL AND WILL BREAK IF THE HEAD IS OVERTIGHTENED. TIGHTEN “SNUG TIGHT” ONLY. Next lubricate and replace the spindle, making sure that the gears are meshing, and replace the front spindle bearing by screwing on COUNTER CLOCKWISE.

ADJUSTABLE OFFSET DRILLING ATTACHMENTS – RIGID AND FLEXIBLE

Follow the instructions above to remove the front spindle bearing.

REMOVE THE FRONT HEAD: The COUPLING NUT that connects the two angle heads has both RIGHT HAND AND LEFT HAND THREADS. The coupling nut must be disengaged before attempting to remove or adjust the head. After disengaging the coupling nut the front head can easily be removed to gain access to the center drive assembly. Remove, clean and inspect the center drive assembly.

Follow the instructions under Right Angle Drilling Attachments to complete the procedure.

Always check operation by hand before chucking to power.

STRAIGHT FLEXIBLE DRILLING ATTACHMENTS

REMOVE THE FRONT RETAINING NUT: Clamp the front ferrule in a bench vise. Using the pliers or crescent wrench turn the nut in a CLOCKWISE direction. The flexible core assembly (drive shaft) can then be removed for cleaning, inspection and lubrication.
Always check operation by hand before chucking to power.

THIN HEAD OFFSET DRILLING ATTACHMENT

REMOVE HEAD PLATE: Using a screw driver, remove the screws on the head plate.
GEARS: The gears can be removed at this time for cleaning, inspection and lubrication.
Always check operation by hand before chucking to power.

FLAT OFFSET DRILLING ATTACHMENT

The Terry #T-25 and Terry #T-235 have an oil plug for adding grease to the tool. To inspect gears and bearing surfaces use the wrench enclosed with your tool to remove the plates covering each gear.

Always check operation by hand before chucking to power.
